The College Care Package Guide: What to Send Your Student This Semester
By November, college isn’t new anymore. Midterms are done, finals are coming, and the dining hall food has gotten old. This is when a box from home means the most.
A good care package doesn’t need a lot in it. Send a few things your student would never buy for themselves, plus something that feels like you. Here’s what we’d pack this season.

Start With Something Cozy
Dorm rooms run cold, and late nights in the library run colder. A great layer is the gift they’ll wear until spring.
For her, the American Vintage Baptown sweatshirt or the Atubay hoodie in blue are soft, a little oversized, and easy to throw on for an 8 a.m. If you want to spend more, Quince’s Mongolian cashmere crewneck is a sweater she’ll still be wearing after graduation.
For him, Alo’s Elevate Waffle long sleeve crew is the textured basic he’ll wear to class, to the gym, and everywhere else. Quince also makes the cashmere crewneck in men’s sizing, and it’s an easy upgrade from the hoodie he’s worn every day since August.
Add the Small Comforts
Some of the best things to send are the ones they’d never think to buy.
Alo’s Recovery Slipper is made for shared hallways and sore feet after a workout. Doublesoul socks, in the High Medium or Low cut, work for anyone and make a long day better. Tuck in a few pairs.
Beekeeper’s Naturals Superfood Honey goes in tea or oatmeal, or straight off the spoon when a cold is going around the dorm. It’s a small reminder that someone is looking out for them.
A Little Self-Care, for Everyone
Daughters love skincare in a care package, and sons quietly appreciate it too.
For her, Rhode’s Highlight Milk Multipurpose Luminizer has earned its reputation and deserves a spot in her makeup bag. Pair it with a YSE Beauty Xtreme Glass hydrogel sheet mask for a Sunday reset before a big week.
For him, the BeeCee Do-It-All Skincare Duo keeps it simple: two products and no guesswork. It’s a routine he’ll actually use instead of leaving on the shelf.
Something to Read Between Study Sessions
The A24 Lady Bird screenplay book is a sweet, slightly sentimental pick, especially for a freshman. It’s a story about growing up and leaving home, and it’s a quick read on a study break.
How to Pack It
Keep it to five or six items. Pick one cozy piece, one comfort item, one treat, and one thing that’s just for them. Add a handwritten note. That’s the part they’ll keep.
Time it well. The week before finals and the days after Thanksgiving break are when a box from home lands best. Ship it to the campus mailroom instead of the dorm room, and text them the tracking number so it doesn’t sit there unclaimed.
Shop the Care Package Edit
Everything above is in our We Love Care Packages collection, so you can build the whole box in one place. Pick a few things, write a note, and send some love.
