The Biggest Movies of Summer 2026 You’ll Actually Want to See in Theaters
Summer is nearing, which means the blockbusters are coming for us.
And 2026 is stacked with theater-worthy movies, from classic sequels and major franchise returns to live-action reboots, concert experiences, and big-screen spectacles. Basically, this summer has options.
So grab your people, pick your seats early, and start planning around the movies everyone will be talking about:
The Devil Wears Prada 2 (May 1)
Miranda Priestly is back. So are Andy, Emily, and Nigel. This one feels less like a sequel and more like a full group chat event. Go with your friends, your mom, your sister, or anyone who still thinks about that cerulean monologue.
Billie Eilish: Hit Me Hard and Soft (May 8)
A 3D concert film co-directed by Billie Eilish and James Cameron. Yes, that combination alone makes this feel like something you don’t just watch at home. Expect a full fan experience.
The Mandalorian and Grogu (May 22)
Star Wars on the big screen again, with Grogu front and center. This is one of those rare movies that works for everyone, whether you’re deep in the fandom or just there for the tiny green icon.
Masters of the Universe (June 5)
He-Man is back, with Nicholas Galitzine and Jared Leto stepping into a very big, very nostalgic world. This feels like one of those “parents and kids both have a reason to go” movies.
Toy Story 5 (June 19)
Pixar is bringing the toys back, this time taking on the idea of toys vs. tech. This is easily one of the safest bets of the summer if you want something that hits emotionally and works for everyone in the room.
Supergirl (June 26)
A new take on Supergirl that leans a little more chaotic and less polished than past DC characters. This could be one of the more fun superhero theater experiences in a while.
Minions 3 (July 1)
You already know what this is. Loud, chaotic, and somehow funny for both kids and adults. The kind of movie where the whole theater is locked in.
Live-Action Moana (July 10)
Moana returns, this time in live-action, with Dwayne Johnson back as Maui. This is a big family movie, but also one that people will want to experience together on a big screen.
The Odyssey (July 17)
Christopher Nolan returns with a massive adaptation of the classic story, starring Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, and more. This is the definition of “see it in theaters.”
Spider-Man: Brand New Day (July 31)
Tom Holland is back, and this is almost guaranteed to be one of the loudest opening weekends of the summer. If you want the full experience, this is a go early, go with friends kind of movie.
Sleeper Pick: The Dog Stars (August 28)
A post-apocalyptic story directed by Ridley Scott and starring Jacob Elordi. Not the loudest movie on this list, but potentially one of the most interesting. This is your late-summer wildcard.
Why This Summer Feels Different
There’s something bigger happening here.
People, especially Gen Z, are not going to the movies less. They’re just going more intentionally. They show up when it feels like something is happening, when it feels social, and when it feels worth leaving the house.
Going to the movies is becoming less of a habit and more of a choice. And that is not a bad thing. It just means the movies that hit, really hit.
Make It a Plan
Summer 2026 is giving us options, so the only real question is: which one are you seeing first?
